Wanaka – naturally beautiful

lunchwanakaLocated at the heart of the southern lakes, Wanaka is the gateway to the Mt. Aspiring National Park, internationally renowned for its glaciers and magnificent tramping and climbing.

Set in truly magnificent scenery, the area boasts three major lakes, a host of small still waters and a number of quality streams and rivers, from small intimate snow fed streams to the mighty Clutha River - New Zealand's largest.

airtimewanaka For fishermen there’s plenty to choose from - the Clutha, Hawea and part of the Matukituki Rivers are open all year round.  In other rivers the season runs from 01 Nov - 31 May.  As most Rivers are located within Mt Aspiring National Park, it's advisable to use a local guide for the best experience.

With top ski fields and heliski facilities, the mountains surrounding the lake provide a winter snow lover’s paradise.

The township of Wanaka, situated on Lake Wanaka and facing north is blessed with an incomparable alpine panorama. In summer thousands of holiday-makers flock to the lake to enjoy boating, swimming, water-skiing and trout fishing.
