The Whangaroa Big Gamefish Club is affiliated to the New Zealand Big Gamefish Council and IGFA and is one of the oldest gamefish clubs in NZ. It was started in 1925 when the famous American angler Zane Grey came into the Whangaroa Harbour to weigh in striped marlin. The club is the ideal place to meet and talk to anglers and skippers of charter boats. You can plan your big gamefishing expedition, perhaps to the famous King and Middlesex Banks off the Three Kings Islands out of site of land! Whangaroa has been dubbed the 'marlin capital' of the world with lots of striped marlin, blue and black marlin to be caught. Yellowfin tuna and yellowtail kingfish also provide good sport, as do various shark species. You don't have to kill these magnificent fish these days if you don't want to, you can enjoy the hunt and tag and release them. Come to the club and get a taste for big gamefishing this season.
