Rotorua – like no other place on earth

maoriheritageRotorua is the heartland of Maoridom.  The Arawa people have lived here for more than six hundred years enjoying the therapeutic thermal pools and spas and utilizing the natural energy to cook their food.

The first Europeans to visit the area could see the natural health benefits of the therapeutic waters and it wasn’t long before many arrived from all parts of the world to enjoy them.

But Rotorua is not just a place of relaxation and therapy.  It’s home to a wide range of outdoor adventure from fly-fishing for a trophy sized rainbow or brown trout or a leisurely stroll through the Redwood Forest to riding the torrid rapids on a whitewater rafting experience on the Kaituna, Rangitaiki, or Wairoa rivers, bungy jumping from a tower 43 meters above ground or an exhilarating jetboat ride to Huka Falls.

Here you can run, slip and slide down the scree slope of Mt Tarawera, an extinct volcano. Or race your friends down a mountain side on the luge. There are great forest trails for mountain biking or hiking – that’s why Rotorua has become a mecca for mountain bikers.

skydivingTake a scenic flight by helicopter or floatplane - and maybe land on a dormant volcano - or an active one! Maybe even jump right out - try tandem skydiving!

Then there’s the Zorb - tumble head over heels down a hillside inside this revolutionary clear ball or take a safari through native forest and over rugged farmland, on horseback or by farm-bike.

There’s action aplenty in Rotorua and in the evening you can relax in a spa, stroll around the lakefront and dine out in one of the many restaurants that really know how to tempt the palate of even the most demanding gourmet palate.

Rotorua’s welcome says it all – “Manaakitanga – feel the spirit”.
